Support Groups-Caregivers

Caring for someone who is seriously ill can be very tiring. Most caregivers feel selfish if they think of themselves, especially in light of the trials their loved one is facing. But if the caregiver does not get help and support, s/he may get sick as well and then who will care for the patient? Meeting with others who are in the same position, who know the trials and the heartaches, and the joys and triumphs--not to mention helpful tips for making life easier!--can do wonders for your ability to keep providing care. You may also want to look at the support groups listed for your care receiver’s condition. The groups listed here are non-disease specific.

Caring for the Caregiver Support Group

Unpaid caregivers residing in Lane County, who are providing care for someone age 60 and over, or caregivers who are age 60 and over caring for a related child under the age of 18, including children with a disability, are especially encouraged to come. Online Caregiver Support Groups
Whether you are a new caregiver, a veteran caregiver (been at it for several years), a caregiver in transition (e.g., the person you care for is now in a nursing home), there is a support group here for you. This internet listserve allows you to correspond with others in the same situation through e-mail. Many people say that they like online support groups because of the ability to access it at their convenience, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some also note that the anonymity of an online group makes them feel more comfortable speaking candidly. In addition to the support groups, this website also offers many helpful tips and articles.
