Baptist Trinity has a rich history in the Memphis area. In 1974 the franchise "Homemakers Upjohn" was started by Ben & Patricia Hilbun. In March of 1991 the name was officially changed to Trinity Healthcare Services. Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation purchased Trinity in 1992 and subsequently changed the name in 1998 to Baptist Trinity Home Care & Hospice.(Return to top)
HomeCare Elite - Last year, Baptist Trinity was selected as one of the top home health agencies in the country by HomeCare Elite. The annual review identified the top 25 percent of the nation's 8,000 home health agencies. Winners are ranked by an analysis of performance measures in quality outcomes, quality improvement and financial performance.
Home Care Compare - All Medicare certified home health agencies are "graded" by Medicare in certain outcomes categories. Baptist Trinity consistently scores high in all categories and particularly ranks much higher than state and national averages, as well as higher than our competitors, in such areas as "percentage of patients admitted to the hospital" and "percentage of patients needing unplanned emergency care".
Hospice House - Baptist Trinity will open the first residential hospice house in the Memphis area this summer. Our hospice house will provide a warm and loving environment for those facing the end of life.
Our Non-Profit Status
Only about 17 percent of home health agencies are estimated to be non-profit. As with other parts of the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, there is a fundamental difference in the overall purposes of nonprofit and for-profit health care organizations. For-profit health care organizations are legally and ethically responsible to their owners and/or stockholders, and are obligated to do well for the benefit of these owners. Their primary goal is private accountability. Baptist Trinity Home Care and Hospice is proud to be responsible and accountable to the community and population we serve. We are legally and ethically bound to "do good" for the benefit of our community. Our governing body is comprised of leaders from the Memphis area community. Rather than being held accountable to private owners, the earnings and reserves of Baptist Trinity are reinvested to benefit the community.
A prime example of our commitment to our community is our comprehensive bereavement center. All hospice agencies are required to provide bereavement to patient families. However, Baptist Trinity has taken that requirement and expanded it to provide the Memphis area's only comprehensive bereavement center which is open and free to the public. Last year, we served nearly 900 individuals in the Memphis area with our professional, comprehensive bereavement services and grief camps. Nearly 90 percent of these individuals were from outside our patient family population and all services were provided free of charge.
Last year we were honored to serve over 4000 patients in the Shelby and Fayette county area in our home care and hospice agencies. We served nearly 900 in our bereavement center with free bereavement services.(Return to top)
